Is Dark Arisen worth it?
Dark Arisen is the 2026 expansion for Dragon's Dogma 2, not the first game's 2013 edition. It is best suited to players who want more exploration, vocation skills and repeatable equipment hunting. This is a source-based buying assessment, not a hands-on review or scored test.
This guide covers the 2026 expansion for Dragon's Dogma 2. Compare it with the 2013 Dark Arisen game.
What you are paying for
The paid expansion adds Norgan's campaign, twelve Lost Rites dungeon challenges, relic appraisal and new skills for existing vocations. CAPCOM's Q&A explicitly says it does not introduce new vocations. The repeated expedition and appraisal loop matters more to the purchase decision than simply reaching the final story quest.
Do not buy the expansion just to obtain Hard Mode or six equipped weapon skills. Hard Mode is in the October 9 free title update; six skill slots and the expanded save system arrived on September 2. These base-game updates and the paid Norgan content are different purchases.
Game8's dedicated length article estimates 25-30 hours for the expansion main path and around 60 for completion. Its overview uses a shorter estimate, so treat these as planning ranges with differing scope, not an official duration guarantee.
Buy, wait or use the free update
| Your situation | Practical choice |
|---|---|
| Own DD2 and enjoy its combat | The $29.99 Steam US expansion adds new adventures and equipment hunting without repurchasing the base game. |
| New Steam buyer wanting both campaigns | The $49.99 complete package is $19.99 cheaper than the $39.99 base game plus $29.99 expansion bought separately. |
| Only want harder combat or more skill slots | Install the free title updates first. These systems alone do not require buying Norgan. |
| Want a new vocation or official co-op | Skip a purchase based on that expectation: neither is an advertised expansion feature. |
| Unsure whether DD2 runs well on your PC | Check requirements and base-game performance first; this page contains no new benchmark or hardware guarantee. |
US prices are a snapshot from October 17, 2026. Regional prices, offers and ownership rules can differ. Nintendo lists its Switch 2 complete edition at $49.99.
Questions
Is Dark Arisen worth buying if I already own DD2?
It is a stronger fit if you want Norgan, Lost Rites and repeatable relic hunting. If you only want Hard Mode and the updated combat systems, try the free title updates before paying for the expansion.
How long is the expansion?
Game8's dedicated length guide estimates 25-30 hours for the main path, but its overview gives a shorter range. Exploration and repeat appraisal runs make a single guaranteed duration inappropriate.
