Weapons and acquisition routes
Vernworth's smithy is a documented source for Grievous Horns and Initiate's Blade. For an ice-enchanted Mage staff, investigate Frigid Finger at Dragonsbreath Tower. Fulminous Shield is a book, not equipment.
Named weapon sources
| Weapon | Type and vocation | Documented source |
|---|---|---|
| Grievous Horns | Archistaff: Sorcerer; also usable by Warfarer | Roderick's Smithy in Vernworth. |
| Initiate's Blade | Duospear: Mystic Spearhand; also usable by Warfarer | Vernworth's smithy; unlock the vocation before planning a duospear build. |
| Frigid Finger | Ice-enchanted staff: Mage; also usable by Warfarer | Fextralife documents a B1F chest at Dragonsbreath Tower in southwestern Battahl. |
These are named guide leads, not a complete weapon database. Capcom changed some chest contents, drops, and equipment stats in June 2026; inspect the actual item and shop stock.
Match the weapon to the vocation
Fighter uses swords or maces with shields; Warrior uses greatswords or hammers; Archer uses bows; Thief uses daggers; Mage uses staves; Sorcerer uses archistaves. Mystic Spearhand uses duospears, Magick Archer uses magickal bows, and Trickster uses censers. Warfarer can combine weapon types but cannot use maister skills.
Do not confuse a Mage staff with a Sorcerer archistaff. A larger Magick number does not override vocation restrictions. Compare the current enhancement preview rather than mixing unenhanced and upgraded stats from old tables.
Where is Fulminous Shield?
Dudley, the traveling merchant initially found in Melve, sells the grimoire. He can move as the story progresses. Reading it casts High Thundermine and consumes it; keep it for Spellbound or The Sorcerer's Appraisal instead of trying to equip it as a shield.
Questions
Where can you buy an early duospear?
Check the smithy in Vernworth for Initiate's Blade. It is a Mystic Spearhand weapon.
Is Frigid Finger an archistaff?
No. It is an ice-enchanted Mage staff, not a Sorcerer archistaff.
