Max level and vocation rank

Game8 documents a character-level cap of 999 for the Arisen and pawns, while each vocation stops at rank 9. These are different progression systems: character XP raises level, and discipline earned raises the equipped vocation.

How to keep leveling efficiently

Does your vocation affect stat growth?

Game8's stat-growth guide describes vocation-dependent level-up allocation and stat realignment on changing vocation. For example, it associates Fighter with health and physical defense and Mage with magick-related growth. That does not mean a facial preset determines a combat build.

Exact growth multipliers, the level at which every stat stops increasing, and optimal grinding times are not established here. The practical choice is a vocation whose skills and gear suit the current content, rather than treating level 999 as a prerequisite to play the ending.

Is Hard Mode required for the level cap?

No level-cap source cited here makes Hard Mode a requirement. It is a separate difficulty setting. Game8 reports increased XP and DCP there, but also warns that selecting it locks the difficulty until the ending; use that guide before changing a current adventure.
